january 2023
As the self-improvement books advise, January is the perfect time for setting (new) goals, making resolutions, and starting new habits. Well, that’s bullshit! The only thing you gain by doing this is putting too much pressure on yourself for a month, creating unrealistic expectations. Setting goals is an essential part of personal and professional growth, but it is a process that requires time and patience. Ιt is a constant battle with yourself and by definition, there is no time limit.
Starting new habits can be both exciting and challenging and I was looking for something new to introduce to my daily routine. Swimming is an activity that I always wanted to try, but procrastination never let me. The time had come to expose myself to the benefits of swimming! I originally started swimming as a form of psychotherapy. The feeling of weightlessness in the water can be very soothing and can help to ease stress and tension. Very quickly it developed into a beloved but also necessary activity and I am very happy about that.
Another essential moment in January, was the rekindling of my cinephile aspect, by visiting weekly the movie theaters. After the pandemic and the years of quarantine, going to the movies seemed a bit awkward somehow. So we decided to reconsider that and start supporting the city’s alternative cinemas on a weekly basis. After all, the smell of buttery popcorn, the sound of bustling moviegoers filling the room, and the idea of sharing an experience with strangers, are valuable moments that could not be replicated at home.
