february 2024
February in Berlin captures a moment of introspection and transformation in the heart of winter, as it brings a mix of winter charm and anticipation for the upcoming spring. Hints of longer days and the promise of blossoming cherry trees signal the gradual transition to a new season.
Despite the cold, there is a sense of vibrancy in the city, with cultural events and art exhibitions adding splashes of color to the gray backdrop. It is a great opportunity to “taste” the urban vibes that the city generously offers and capture nice photos of monuments and buildings with that gray background.
For 10 consecutive years since we moved to Berlin we managed to attend once more the annual Berlinale International Film Festival. What a blast! The 74th Berlinale, one of the most acclaimed film festivals in the world, showcased an array of diverse and thought-provoking films from talented filmmakers across the globe. Once again proved to be a highlight in the film industry calendar, inspiring creativity and fostering a deeper appreciation for the power of storytelling on the big screen.
Solidarity, diversity, and inclusion were the main characteristics of the festival with a bold, yet necessary statement. The disinvitation of AfD politicians, a right-wing extremist party, to the Opening of the Berlinale, due to the hate speech and other anti-democratic and discriminatory attitudes that unfortunately are on the rise in Germany. I would say that in such times when right-wing extremists are moving into parliaments all over the world, this initiative should be adopted by the rest of the artistic community!
